Figure Drawing
8 Sunday Evenings 6:30 – 9:30pm
February 5th – March 26th, 2023
$675
Maximum enrollment: 9 students
This intensive figure class focuses on drawing correctly from nature as a basic skill and foundation to good painting.
Students will be working from the live model while being introduced to representing the visual impression of the figure in charcoal on white Roma paper.
As the drawing progresses, emphasis is placed on seeing specific half tone shapes and properly compressing them within their value group in order to achieve a unified drawing that properly represents the visual impression.
Students will be working alongside the instructor as each stage of the process is explained and demonstrated. Daily discussions and lectures on various topics will be given, as well as personalized instruction specific to the individual’s level and needs.
Emphasis will be place on gesture, proportion and the flow of light in order to represent the true visual impression of the model in their environment.
By decisively organizing and observing specific value shapes in relationship with structural and anatomical elements, the student further develops the ability to think as a painter.
"The Human body, with its varied beauty of construction, character and action, is so complex that it is essential for the student, artist and sculptor not only to have a clear knowledge of its intricate forms, but a comprehensive understanding and a habit of simple treatment in order to apply this knowledge to its artistic end.”
-John H. Vanderpoel, “The Human Figure”, 1935
